Description

Fredensborgveien 103 is a large two storey villa built for a single prosperous family. It is an example of an early modernist architecture, in the Nordic countries this period is often described as functionalism. Many original design features are still intact such as low-angled hipped slate roof
the plain wooden cladding which is vertical for the ground floor and horizontal for the first floor
the simple mitred corners of the horizontal cladding
the square windows with a mullion
and, the corner windows with a horizontal emphasis. Another typical detail from this period and style is the use of two colours on the external walls: dark for the lower floor and lighter for upstairs. Here the choice is green for the downstairs and yellow for the upper floor.
