"Dverberg kirke" (2 of 5)
Description
Dverberg Church was designed by the architect Christian Henrich Grosch (1801-1865) who was one of the most prolific Norwegian architects of the 19th century. He designed three purely octagonal log churches in Northern Norway, all characterised by the simple octagonal main volume and a single turret on top of the sloping roof. The three were: Dverberg Church, Kjelvik Church in Finnmark (damaged by strong winds in 1882) and Sørreisa Church in Troms (burnt down in 1987). Each had a small vestibule and a sacristy added to the main octagonal body. All three were built during the 1840s and Dverberg Church is the only one remaining.
