"Hydro-byen i Glomfjord" (4 of 5)
Description
The church and the school were localised at a high-level and open area at Vassaksla, between the pre-war period town in Glomen and the post-war period town in Haugvik. The church was completed in 1957 and was designed by the architecture office Blakstad &
Munthe-Kaas in Oslo. They were also the architects responsible for the Bodø Cathedral. Glomfjord Church is made of concrete, and is painted white on the exterior, with grey slate on the steep-pitched roof. It has one nave, a tall church hall and a smaller, low-rising parish hall annexed at a right angle. The artist Bjarne Rise carried out the adornment of the back wall of the choir and the gallery parapet above the entrance.
