Torvdalshalsen rasteplass (Torvdalshalsen Rest Area)
Description
Torvdalshalsen, Vestvågøy, Lofoten
Torvdalshalsen Rest Area enjoys views of the mountains at Eggum to the west and to the south the gentle agricultural land at Borg with its Lofotr Viking Museum where remains of a chieftan's house from 500 AD were found.
A 60m long wall in east west direction splits the site in two. The car park is on the northern side and the picnic area is to the south. The wall is typically just taller than a person and is built as a windbreak creating shelter against the cold northerly wind. A long rectangular wooden platform on the southern side is shaped, as if cut and folded, to follow the landscape and create groups of shielded seating.
