"Breidablikk" (5 of 6)
Description
The large barn building, with a hayloft on the second floor, is situated along the eastern side of the courtyard. A ramp on the gable wall allowed hay wagons to be driven directly into the loft with horse and cart. The barn itself is constructed with log walls, while the hayloft, which required good ventilation, is built with a post-and-beam structure clad in wooden boards. Such a combined barn and hayloft under one roof is often referred to as a "unit barn" and became common on larger farms in Northern Norway in the latter half of the 19th century.
