"Skihytta på Rismålshaugen" (2 of 4)
Description
Tromsø Ski Association spearheaded the construction of the ski cabin at Rismålshaugen, which was completed in 1914 and built by master builder Peter Tessem. The association was founded in 1897 with the aim of promoting skiing. They organized ski races, torchlight tours, and excursions on Tromsøya and in Tromsdalen, including cross-country races from Clodiusbakken or Gebhardtstykket and ski jumping competitions at Charlottenlund. To raise funds for the construction of the ski cabin, they held carnivals and a large "ski market" with music, raffles, a "witch's cabinet," shooting ranges, and the sale of food and beer, among other activities.
