"Dverberg kirke" (5 of 5)
Description
The first known church at Dverberg was a medieval wooden church. During the 1630s a new cruciform log church was erected. This got badly damaged by lightning in 1735 and the following year a new church was built possibly reusing some old materials supplemented by new. This was most likely also a cruciform log building. Bishop Friis and his missionary society financed repairs to the church during the 1760s, but as time passed into the 19th century the church once again fell into disrepair and was eventually demolished. The current building was completed in 1843. The earlier churches were situated closer to the vicarage.
