"Sortland kirke" (3 of 4)
Description
Sortland Church has walls made of 13cm thick square sawn logs and vertical external cladding and both vertical and horizontal tongued and grooved interior cladding. The exposed parts of the roof construction and the tall wooden columns are richly decorated. The building materials were supplied by N. Koldahl in Bangsund near Namsos and shipped to Sortland. The roof slates came from Kvænangen in Troms. The tall upward reaching windows are typical for the gothic revival style. The stained glass on the chancel windows is a recent addition. The organ was renovated and extended by the organ builder G. Husted in 1985-87 and it is rated as good.
