When the work started many local residents feared the area would be windswept and devoid of visitors. They have been proved wrong and thanks to the under-pavement heating and street furnishing the area has lush vegetation and a longer attractive outdoor season than any other part of town.

As the resistance to the project diminished it became possible to introduce more drastic interventions such as narrowing of the street and introducing more zoning. The southern end of Nordahl Griegs gate has quite a robust layout with blocks of granite and bold vegetation.
