"Rådhus Mo i Rana" (4 of 5)
Description
The most obvious style codes of functionalism have been made use of here, especially with its geometric spaces and horizontal window bands stretching round the corners. At the same time, there is a strong emphasis on constructive joints and material surfaces, providing strong character and weight. The corner windows on each floor are raised using one narrow module and this gives an impression of vertical corner foundations. The towers and the powerful concrete base, which forms the foundation of the blocks, provide fortification or fortress associations. The block housing the municipal council chamber is additionally raised up on the most powerful and gently sloping concrete base, as if perched on a cliff over the town buildings.
