Description

The inhabitants, it must be said, found the town hall to be more rational than worthy. When there was heavy rain, the red smoke from the Ironworks streamed down over the grey concrete walls of the town hall and the architecture was felt to be anything but uplifting. The building confirmed its identity as an industrial town, but confounded expectations of what a town hall should be, insofar as aesthetics and monumentality were concerned. In an attempt at improve its appearance, much of the town hall’s concrete brutalism was covered with light grey ceramic tiles during the 1980s.
