"Tranøy i Hamarøy" (4 of 9)
Description
The Hamsun Gallery is located in the building which once served as the general shop for the trading establishment. This building is from the 19th century. Knut Hamsun (Knud Pedersen) was employed as a clerk in this shop when he was 14-15 years old (1873-1874). The gallery was established by local residents and is now operated by the owners of the building. It features changing sale exhibitions that often incorporate themes from Hamsun's novels. Situated to the north and west of the general shop are the remaining 19th century buildings from the trading establishment, this includes a boathouse and storehouse on pillars with an original dinner bell on the roof.
