"Tranøy i Hamarøy" (3 of 9)
Description
Edvarda's House has cross post windows, which are double or triple panelled in width. The window frames are comprised of profiled mouldings and brackets which support the weatherboard above the window. The shape of the brackets is typical of Swiss chalet style houses, and was often used in new homes prior to 1930. In Northern Norway, double windows (that were mounted on the outside) were most commonly used, before World War II. Sometimes the windows were removed during the summer, while others were left up the entire year. In many of the residences, these characteristic double windows have been removed, but at Edvarda's House the original double windows are still in place!
