"Tranøy i Hamarøy" (2 of 9)
Description
The building today referred to as Edvarda's House was originally built for the bank Hammerø Sparebank in 1923. The hotel Edvarda's House started operating in the renovated premises in 1990. When necessary the hotel has the nearby building "Edvarda's Sister" at its disposal.
The wooden building is two-storied with an attic beneath the slate-clad saddle roof. It has a rectangular plan, and the main façade is symmetrically arranged with an entrance in the middle. With its horizontal wooden boarding, the façade is broken up by means of storey cornices. The building has neo-classical features, such as a symmetric plan, broken up façade and chimney positioning, storey cornice and scant eaves. One also finds a centrally positioned, Baroque-inspired roof dormer.
On the south side of the building, there is a well-executed annex. Its form and materials were adapted to correspond with the main building, but the details on the panelling and the windows indicate that they were built more recently. The two main stories are used in connection with the hotel, while the old loft (once used for drying clothes) has been refurbished as a flat for the owners.
