Description

The administration building, or "Storkontoret" ("the Large Office"), was built in 1906-1907. It is a large wooden building mounted on a pedestal/cellar storey constructed of ashlars. The entrance is located on the north side and faces the main road in Furulund. During the planning phase, the design of this building received a lot attention and several prominent architects were consulted.

One can characterise the building as having classical features with a rustication motif on the cellar storey, marked columns on the façade and pediments above the windows. A small hipped side on the roof gable bestows the building with a quality of heaviness and solidarity. As a result, one could argue that the Swiss-style details on the eaves seem stylistically ill conceived concerning the rest of the building. However, this was a highly developed and typical architectural element at that time. The main entrance is strictly symmetric, two flights of steps emphasise the overall Neo-Baroque quality of the building.

The Fauske Municipality has assumed responsibility of this building.
