"Bratrein" (4 of 7)
Description
The 1½ storey storehouse has, like the rest of the buildings, been altered and extended repeatedly, the last time this happened was in 1920. It has a part log and part timber frame construction and now measures nearly 12m lengthways and has a footprint of 67m2. There are six rooms as well as two upstairs. Though storage of cheese, flour, salt and meat was the building's original function here at Bratrein the storehouse had many other uses too. “Flatbrød” (very thin unleavened bread) was made on the open fireplace and bread baked in the baking oven. They smoked their own fish and meat in here too. Handicrafts such as weaving, woodwork and shoe repair also took place in this building. And, the long line was also brought to the storehouse for baiting. During the summer hay making time the hired-in menfolk slept in the loft.
