The lower half of the park, between the market square Torget and the street Strandgata, is dominated by the wide circular fountain with a central sculpture of a mother and child by the artist Ørnulf Bast. The plaque states: "To the town of Hammerfest in memory of my mother Marie Hauan Bay born in Hammerfest on 12 August 1853. Charles Ulrick Bay, the United States of America's ambassador to Norway 1946-1953. Fountain by Ørnulf Bast."
