Description

There are large slag heaps just below the hikers' shelter and there are also remains of a smeltery, an office building, houses, barracks, a shop and a school. Ankerlia was part of a wider mining enterprise called Birtavarre Gruber.

From Ankerlia there are many paths and old roads leading to the spectacular Sabetjohk Bridge/Gorsa Bridge and to other smaller mining settlements. One such community was at Moskogaisa where whole families would spend the winter and they had their own school. The mines at Moskogaisa were for some reason given English names such as “111-Sunrise”, “115-Central” and “117-Sunset”.
