Description
Berlevåg is situated on the northwest side of the Varanger peninsula, bordering the resource-rich Barents Sea, and is one of the most active fishing municipalities in the land. The 1100 or so population in the municipality is divided between the municipal centre of Berlevåg and the fishing village of Kongsfjord, where about 30 people live. The church is centrally positioned in Berlevåg village. Since 1960, it has dominated at the top of Granbakken, beautiful and tall, white and dignified. Towering over the other buildings in the fishing village, it is a useful sailing landmark for fishermen and other travellers approaching from the sea.
