Description
Here we see a "stáhkka" (Sámi word for haystack support) with the museum building in the background. This is a traditional fence, made of birch poles bound together with withe. One can catch a glimpse of this structure on the right side in the photograph. The haystack support was used both in the outlying fields and in the nearby fields to store dry hay, which was used as winterfeed for the cows and sheep. The floor of the haystack support was elevated, so that it was out of reach of the livestock while they grazed here during the late summer and autumn.
