"Vestre Jakobselv fiskersamvirke" (3 of 5)
Description
As part of the reconstruction effort there were immediately after the war established several temporary fish processing plants which were gradually taken over by fishermen's cooperatives. Finnmark County's Reconstruction Committee organized this work in collaboration with the Ministry of Fisheries. The most typical temporary buildings were simple wooden barracks, but there were also so called Nissen-huts. These were brought to East Finnmark from Scotland by Norwegian troops that arrived soon after the occupying forces started their retreat west- and southwards. They have a semi-circular cross section and are built of steel ribs with corrugated sheets on both sides and wooden gable ends. In spite of being intended as temporary constructions many of them are still in use and here at Vestre Jakobselv there are three.
