Description

Rebuilding wharfs was in 1945 top priority for both distribution of goods and receiving deliveries of fish. Nearly 100 wharfs were built during1946 alone, some temporary and some permanent. There was no access to treated wood, so they went on using the same methods as before the war, and standardised blueprints were adapted according to local needs. The wharf here at Vestre Jakobselv is a typical example built of wooden poles and a wooden deck. The wharf was repaired in 1970 with the same kind of untreated materials and according to the current owners it is still in good condition.
