Description

The industrial complexes which were built in the 1940s and 1950s are divided into two sections, but visually and physically they are connected by the old trolley track. This track ran in a straight line from the fjord to the plateau roughly 100 metres above, partially on the hill above a viaduct in the factory area. Initially the Glomfjord Potassium Nitrate Factories (1947-1949) were built in Øvre Haugvik, on the plateau. Thereafter the Compound Fertiliser Factory (1954-1955) was built near the fjord, in Nedre Haugvik. This photograph was taken during the dismantling of the synthesis complex in the first half of the 1990ies. The old repair shop building, from roughly 1920, forms one of the end sides of the town square in Haugvik. It can be seen on the lower left in the photo.

The photograph is from the book "Vekstkraft. Hydro Glomfjord 1947-97", written by Marit Hernes and Eirik Fiva, Bodø 1997.
