The external steel cladding is made from both corrugated and flat sheets. The colours are selected in accordance with Longyearbyen's official colour scheme. The industrial buildings are mainly grey in a shade which might well have been picked among the rocks on the plain. The additional blue and red brighten up the facades and accentuate the verticality of composition.

Energiverket is run by the company Bydrift, which manages it on behalf of Longyearbyen Community Council.
