Aerial Ropeway no. 5 cuts across the town centre with a 20 m wide security zone on each side and heads eastwards up the mountainside to the valley Adventdalen and thereby becomes another very notable feature in the townscape. Longyearbyen may not be rich in artistic sculptural installations, but on the other hand the tall log trestles make up for this being symbols of the town's identity based on mining history. Buildings are increasingly closing in on the security zone, just one building is so far inside it: the youth club as it was built before the zone was given protected status.
