Description

Hålogalands gate 43 (street address) is the oldest and the largest of the three houses. It was most likely designed by the Tromsø building contractor Teodor Amundsen and collaborated/erected by the building contractor John Bjørhovde for the baker Hans T. Johnsen in 1914. The house is two-storied along with a loft and stands on a plastered foundation wall. Above the foundation wall runs a parapet made of vertical panelling around the entire house, while elsewhere the house is clad with horizontal panelling. The façade that faces downwards towards the town has a bay window in the middle with a balcony above, and a semicircular bay window on one corner. The steep pitched half-hipped roof is slate covered and has a pointed centrally located dormer facing the town. The house is painted white while the window frames are grey.
