"Macks ølbryggeri" (2 of 5)
Description
The director's residence with offices from 1890 was designed by the architect Lars Solberg (1858-1921). It is among the first brick buildings to be built in Tromsø. It's an example of Norwegian historicism with a stucco ground floor
elegantly profiled strings between the storeys and richly decorated consoles on the cornice. The building has a basement, a ground floor and a taller first floor. During the 19th century it was common in Tromsø that there were living quarters above shops or offices. In Storgata 4 the offices on the ground floor had a separate entrance on the south gable. The wide dormer was added to the pitched roof in 1946.
