The Valberg Church is characterised as a long church. The elongated form of the sanctuary room symbolises the path of mankind or the journey of life. The goal is the altar which is a symbol of eternal life. In terms of Norwegian plan types, long churches were most common from the Middle Ages until the 20th century.

Originally the church had a capacity of 360 people. Today the seating capacity has been reduced to 250. This size reduction has provided space for new acquisitions, such as a light globe, table for refreshments and a piano. Additionally, hanging above the isle in the nave there is a spectacular candlelit chandelier, as well as an electric chandelier. Between these hangs a model of a boat with four pairs of oars, square sail and cabin. Beneath the stairs to the gallery, which lies at the very back of the nave, modernised toilets have been installed.
