The glass veranda was added at the end of the nineteenth century and comprises a blend of Swiss style and classicism. The classicism is represented by the finely-wrought half-columns that divide up the glass top and the parapet underneath. Verandas were common in the Swiss style period, and amongst other things this one has lacy-patterned gable boards, which is also a feature of the Swiss style.

After the family moved out in the 1960s, Kiilgården stood empty for a number of years and went into a considerable decline. A group of people were keen to preserve the house and at the end of the 1970s renovation began in stages, partly with the help of public means and volunteer efforts.
