Hvilhaug sykehjem (Hvilhaug Nursing Home)
Description
Mellomveien 82, Tromsø
The Hvilhaug Nursing Home is located approximately 1.5 kilometres south of Tromsø's town centre. This white elongated building is located on a flat terrain, which elsewhere slopes downwards towards the east and the sea. The nearest building is the previous nursing home, which today houses the Steiner School. Hvilhaug is located in a residential neighbourhood, a parking lot and a traffic area surrounds the building.
The nursing home is a three-storied white concrete building. The entire complex is composed of three volumes. A dominating elongated wing, which is orientated in a north-south direction, houses the residents' rooms. Two smaller "boxes," of varying heights are located on a slight angle, on the north end of the elongated wing. Among other things, they house the kitchen and laundry room. Each floor has a long window band on the east-side. The building is characterised by a horizontal quality, white plastered concrete and window bands.
