Gjerdet
Description
Kirkeveien 23
Gjerdet was a farmstead with buildings gathered around an open courtyard. The buildings are situated away from Kirkeveien, and the main house is surrounded by an open garden with lawns, trees and shrubs on three sides. The fourth side faces the courtyard.
The white main house has a tall ground floor and an upper floor nesting under the wide, part hipped, slate roof. The house's north wall is dominated by a central wide dormer under which there is a bay window with a balcony on top. Accessed from a bedroom the balcony is used for airing clothes and bedding. Built in 1906 it was in the new and most fashionable style at the time: jugend (northern European art nouveau).
