Description

RV 862, Bergsbotn, Senja
Where the road makes a 180-degree turn, the viewing platform is located at the top of a cliff. From the central part, which is anchored in the mountain, the platform extends in two directions. To the west, it points towards the open sea with the village of Bergsbotn in the foreground. To the east, it juts out into the space between the river valley and the mountain Hesten.

The structure is 44 meters long, four meters wide, and 10 cm thick. The longitudinal steel beams and the larch wood flooring are in the same layer and have the same dimension. The alternation between horizontal and undulating parts of the floor enhances the platform and makes the cantilevering at both ends possible – six and eight meters respectively. The undulating part provides places to sit, lie, and jump.

The steel support is flexible, and the platform moves and vibrates with the wind and when visitors run or jump. The railing is made of wire netting without a handrail, which allows movement in the structure and provides transparency both above and below.
