Bertheustorget, Harstad (Bertheustorget Shopping Centre)
Description
Fjordgata 1, 9405 Harstad
Harstad's Bertheustorget Shopping Centre is located in the conservation area around the town square and the harbour. Designed by PW Arkitekter it was completed in 2003. The scale of the building's frontage is modified to fit in with the surroundings as is the choice of materials. It rises two to three storeys high with steep pitched roofs. The elevation consists of sections with the proportions of houses with vertical wooden cladding painted red or ochre. Some windows reach over several floors and towards Hvedings gate these end in dormers. This design is clearly derived from traditional seafront warehouses. Facing Fjordgata and Hvedings gate the walls on the ground floor have been moved back to form a colonnade inviting visitors in.
