Universitetet i Tromsø, Medisin og helsefag (University of Tromsø, Medicine and Health Studies)
Description
The university campus in Breivika is located roughly 3 kilometres north of the Tromsø town centre. At the northernmost border of the campus lies the Faculty of Medicine- and Department of Health Studies. Similar to the rest of the campus, the terrain in this area gradually slopes downwards towards the east and the sea. The Medical and Health Studies building (MH) is located above the University Hospital of Northern Norway (UNN). The complex was later annexed with a number of additions, such as a helicopter landing station and a hotel for hospital patients and/or their families.
MH and UNN together comprise over 100,000 square metres of floor space. Outside, these two buildings are divided on the ground level by a thruway street called Hansine Hansensveg, which is used by Tromsø's public transportation. The two are related in that each building is five-storied. A light footbridge runs throughout the common areas, while a sturdier structure runs throughout the laboratories. In both buildings, brick is the main façade material employed, but in different colours. MH is clad with a darker red coloured brick, while light yellow coloured brick decorates the hospital. These two colours unite at the connecting footbridge.
