Description

Kirkegata 2, Tromsø
Both buildings are located at Prostneset in the Tromsø town centre. The building at the address Kirkegata 2, has its gable facing towards the sea and the long side towards the street Kirkegata. The Dalsbø Kiosk is situated in relation to the Havnevesenets building, facing towards the quay and the sea. Today the area is characterised by a quay construction that is used by the Hurtigruta and speed boats, along with a bus terminal for regional buses. In the beginning of the 20th century, when this building was constructed, the area was also a quay for steamboats. The types of structures in the surrounding area are diverse, but to a large extent are office buildings. Kirkegata 2 is a one and a half-storied building with large dormers on the long side. It is adorned with horizontal panelling with little effect of relief and vertical panelling below on the parapet. The building's large projecting slate clad roof, parapet panelling and richly formulated details on the cornice and framework all belong to the Swiss style.
