Description

Bredbuktnesveien, Kautokeino
This office building is situated adjacent to the Cultural Centre on the outskirts of the Kautokeino town centre, in an area with scattered buildings. The buildings are situated on a flat alluvial plain, and a partially developed slope arises behind. These two buildings correspond in that similar materials were used in the design of their weight bearing structures (concrete). In addition, the exterior walls are clad with panelling and slate covers the slanted roofs. The most characteristic aspect of the office building is the basilica solution, where the second storey is recessed. The basilica solution is most often associated with churches - where the sanctuary room has three naves and a row of columns that supports the central nave wall with clerestory windows. This allows natural light to enter the otherwise cavernous room.
