Description
The pointed houses were built in 1976 at the request of Store Norske Spitsbergen Kulkompani. They are prefabricated houses from Moelven, designed by architect MNAL Martin Henriksen from Bergen. Originally, all the houses were stained brown and featured a more enclosed entrance area than they do today. The 1970s marked the beginning of the development of a family-oriented community in Longyearbyen, and the houses were intended as residences for workers associated with the coal company and their families. Today, parts of the housing stock are also owned by Longyearbyen Local Council and Statsbygg.
