"Kirka" (4 of 6)
Description
There has been a church on Tranøya since the Middle Ages, and the current one is likely the third church building on the island. The present church site and building were established around 1775. A new church was built at that time, along with a cemetery near the parsonage courtyard. The church is a timber structure with a cruciform floor plan, and it originally had a roof turret over the crossing. In 1871, it was renovated with new windows, and a porch with a low tower was added to the west. The church is still in active use, hosting a church weekend each summer.
