The power plant utilizes the available water resources in the river system. At the same time, the area and the power station have been developed with outdoor recreation in mind. From County Road 78 at the innermost part of Leirfjorden and the parking lot, an easy six-kilometer trail leads through the beautiful and varied Forsland Valley, ending at Upper Forsland Power Plant. Along the way, visitors pass native vegetation, historical cultural landmarks, engineering feats, picnic areas, and an information center.
