Description

When Christian Frederiksen took over around 1900, there was a large farm operation. He also invested in industry based on both raw materials from the farm (dairy, wool, and butter factory) and from fisheries (herring meal and oil), as well as consumer goods like soap, coffee substitutes, mineral water, tinned goods, oil clothes, etc. Frederiksen was early to adopt the technical inventions of the time such as telegraph, telephone, and electric power, and he led the development of communications in Vesterålen.
