Description

The timber used is of good quality and locally sourced with both external and internal cladding made from high density spruce. The external cladding has been treated with ferric sulphate for the grey colour and is expected to be maintenance free for up to 50 years. To cope with the extreme weather, the high altitude and the proximity to the glacier, the windows have specially calibrated glass and aluminium clad frames.

Much of the timber was donated by local land owners, and both external and internal cladding and floor boards were prepared at a sawmill not far away. The cabin was erected in collaboration between volunteers and professional builders.
