The building’s primary function is to be a base for the border guards, that is being both a place for preparing operations and lodgings. However, there are additional user groups such as other military personell both permanent and temporary, civilian staff and visitors. 

Work-related and social functions are all located on the ground floor, connected by a continuous circulation zone along three sides of the courtyard. The living quarters are situated on the first floor with additional facilities such as a gym and space for recuperation. Although the bedrooms have the same layout, they have varying ceiling heights and enjoy views either of the surrounding forest or the inner courtyard.
