The border guard base is situated on a natural terrace between a lake and a hillock. The base’s main functions are gathered around an inner courtyard, a clearly defined communal space contrasting with the woodland outside the building. On ground floor level the courtyard walls are dominated by floor to ceiling glass with large sliding doors and the remaining external walls have dark coloured wooden cladding. 

The ground plan is rectangular and the central open courtyard has vehicle access in two corners. The long continuous roofline which also includes the roof over the main entrance, holds the building together as one strong volume. Functions such as the kennel and the helipad have separate locations nearby.
