The road, E10, includes the Norwegian Scenic Route from Napp to Å and therefore the aesthetic qualities of the design and landscape architecture have been given extra attention. The E10 is part of the Norwegian trunk road system which has fixed technical standards, though here these have been modified to avoid too dramatic interventions in the landscape. The avalanche galleries are part of a general improvement programme, but the design is a result of collaboration with the scenic route project.
