Description

The road has been renovated and the old road guard stones once again stand upright welcoming visitors to a safe wander along a real piece of road history. Most roads from the early 20th century have been improved, altered or rerouted. They've been made wider and have fewer bends. As new standards have been set, old roads have changed beyond recognition. A few years after WW2 the road southwards from Øksfjordbotn School underwent major alterations and the steepest and bendiest stretches were bypassed by rerouting along the river Sørelva. Thereby, the part of the road now called the Old Road in Øksfjordbotn was left undisturbed.
