Sortland Rådhus was built at a time when Norway was developing into a modern welfare state and it was built to high standards and with emphasis on architectural quality. This can still be seen in the interior where many interesting original features are in place. The photo shows a group of suspended lights in the council chamber.

Nordland County Council has applied for Sortland Town Hall to be given protected status in accordance with the Norwegian Heritage Act.
