Description

The space behind the choir is finished off to the east in a rounded form, and the roof is vaulted of stone - this is called an apse. The photograph shows the fine stonework, carried out in quarried soapstone
this is a so-called ashlar stone. The restored stone altar with five crosses carved into it was the doorway flagstone before the restoration work carried out in around 1960.
