"Håjen på Glein" (3 of 5)
Description
The "borgstue" housed the servants but also had a large fuel store. Both at Glein and the rest of Dønna the main fuel was peat. The "borgstue" has a large stone baking oven which needed to burn wood to get up to temperature. Hence the fuel store had room for both peat and wood.
Håjen became a large enterprise and the 1900 national census shows that nearly 30 people were based on the farm. Andreas Pettersen is the head of the household and described as skipper and farmer. The list also mentions a shop keeper, tenant farmer and shipping agent as well as various maids and farmhands.
