Description

The Dønnes nature and culture trail starts by the parking area next to the church. Set up during the 1990s it goes through woodlands up to the top of the mountain Dønnesfjellet. There are 17 different kinds of conifers planted by the last owner of the Dønnes estate between 1904 and 1910. The trees are now mature and the woodland is now inhabited by a rich variety of birds and animals. The trail is signposted and has information boards en-route. There are steps, little bridges and picnic areas with seating and tables. On the way it passes a summer cattle barn (used for milking while the animals were grazing in the woodlands) that now contains a collection of old agricultural implements. From the top of Dønnesfjellet there are magnificent views over the archipelago and mountains in the distance.
