Description

The medieval church at Dønnes had two storeys, which was unusual in Norway. A flight of steps in the north wall of the choir led up to a chapel above the nave. The lowering of the walls during the nineteenth century displaced most of the chapel. Under the floor in the medieval choir there are stone burial vaults that are as old as the church, where the church's owners and their families were buried. A Trinity window is sited in the east wall of the medieval choir.
